Thaksin sneaks back to Government House

Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra Thursday morning caught the Peoples' Alliance for Democracy off guard by sneaking into Government House and quickly left.

Thaksin entered Government House at 9:20am and left at 10:45 am.

When he arrived most of protesters were away as the PAD was gathering protesters at Samsen Raiway Station at 9 am for marching to the Finance Ministry. The PAD also plans a rally at the Administrative Court in the afternoon.

Some 20 protesters, who remained at Government House, lined up at the fence once they learned that Thaksin was inside and they shouted "Thaksin get out" in both Thai and English nearly all time.

They also went to wait for Thaksin at the same gate and shouted criticism against him when the prime minister was leaving the compound. "Thaksin get out, Thaksin betrayer, Thaksin shamless," shouted the protesters.

Thaksin has been away from Government House since March 14 after the PAD led protesters to besiege the compound.

Thaksin left his house at 9:10 am went past the Sunghee Bridge and took Rajvithi Road and made a left turn to Rama V Bridge and went straight past the Chamaimaruchet Bridge and made a left turn and entered Government House.

He entered Government House through the Chamaimaruchet Gate on the side of Phadung Krungkasem Canal.

Reporters tried to run after Thaksin upstairs the Command Building but were asked by security officials to leave the building.

Police officers guarding Government House said they were not informed in advance about Thaksin's arrival.

Thaksin went to the Thai Rak Thai Party head office on New Phetchaburi Road after leaving Government House.

He told reporters there that he returned to work "normally" at Government House.

When asked whether he would go to work at Government House everyday or not, Thaksin replied: "I'll go there when I want to. If I don't want', I won't go."
