Nation Channel converts to digital

Nation Channel operator Nation Broadcasting Corporation and cable-television operator TTV Television Co Ltd have joined to transform their broadcasting system from analogue to digital. The move will enable subscribers in Greater Bangkok to view 16 channels on top of the current three.
To view the additional channels audiences will have to pay Bt5,900 to get a Nationchannel Box as a supplement to TTV's MMDS system. The subscription fee is Bt300 per month.Viewers can return the box for a full refund if they are not satisfied with the channels and they will still be able to view the previous three channels without the box, according to Adisak Limprungpatanakij, president of Nation Broadcasting Corporation. In addition, as part of a promotion to increase viewers, customers do not have to pay the monthly fee to view the 16 channels during the first six months. The offer includes entertainment, sports, news and talk, soap opera and documentary channels as well as the 24-hour Fox News Channel. To build awareness of the additional channels, both partners plan to take advantage of the print media within the parent company Nation Multimedia Group Plc, as well as its 64 dealers in the Bangkok area. Adisak said the company expected 60 per cent of the current TTV audience to become viewers of the 16 new channels as well as a 10-per-cent increase in its viewer numbers from new subscribers. Among the 16 channels is Your TV, produced for Nation Broadcasting Corporation by teenagers for teens. Nitida Asawanipont, The Nation
