Bt50m budget for royal floral decorations

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) will spend more than Bt50 million to spruce up the capital ahead of celebrations of His Majesty the King's 60th year on the throne, officials said yesterday.
BMA deputy spokesman Jakrapan Pornnimit said about Bt23 million would be spent to decorate Rattanakosin Island with flowers and other plants, and a contractor would be hired to produce 31 decorative arches at a cost of about Bt30 million. Jakrapan said the arches would be completed by April 6. Bangkok Governor Apirak Kosayodhin said pamphlets explaining the meaning of the arches would be distributed to the public. Government Spokesman Surapong Suebwonglee said the renovation of the Chakri Throne Hall should be completed in May. HM the King is scheduled to host a reception for visiting monarchs and their spouses on June 23.
