Argument turns deadly

A Narathiwat village defence volunteer shot a colleague dead late on Monday night after arguing about their patrol roster.

The volunteer from Ban Thungkamin - Surat Saensuk, 38 - surrendered himself to authorities yesterday morning, confessing that he killed his colleague, Nipont Kraikaew, police said.

Nipont was found dead at a checkpoint in Rangae district on Monday night, having been shot five times with a .22 pistol in the back and neck.

Surat said he had quarrelled with Nipont about his roster, because some people were working less than others. The argument got out of hand and Surat shot Nipont dead.
