Many areas of the East and Northeast are being warned of thunderstorms and gusty winds this week, with some areas already being hit yesterday.
The Meteorological Department said a high pressure system had moved in from the China Sea and Vietnam, threatening the Northeast and the East of Thailand with thunderstorms and gusty winds. It said similar conditions could strike the South later. Yesterday and today, the high pressure system from China was expected to extend to cover the lower South China Sea, causing thundershowers in southern Thailand and wave heights of about 2 metres in the Gulf. At about mid-week, thundershowers and strong winds are expected in the Central, East and the Northeast, the department said in its weekly weather forecast. Yesterday, about 150 villagers living in Sakon Nakhon's Phang Khone district were affected by gusty winds, thunderstorms and hailstones, which ravaged many houses and farms, district chief Navee Uthaviphak said. At least one person was injured, Navee said. The province was speeding up its rescue efforts in the district.
