New video downloads waiting in the wings

Mobile networks carrying MP4 files to entertain people seamlessly and smoothly are on the way with the introduction of 3G, according to a music company.
Vorapoj Nimvijit, director of the New Media Business Unit at RS Promotion Plc, said that the service is part of its agenda to sell advanced entertainment technologies. "The company is to provide rich entertainment content to entertain people through the cell phone in their hand. There are many services in the pipeline such as concerts, music videos, and live performances to get their attention," he said. Vorapoj said that many such services had been prepared for mobile users and would be available once the broadband mobile network, or 3G, is available. "While waiting, the company has been developing technology to include entertainment within the existing network." Apart from music videos, concerts, and live-performance downloads, customers will be able to buy video-clip downloads which are longer than the 30-second clips that the company has been selling since last October. "They will also continue to be amused by the full song downloads to their mobile phones, which we have been selling since last September. So far, there have been more than 100,000 downloads," said Vorapoj. RS Promotion will also provide flash on mobiles to give people more choices for communication, and will train developers who have worked in the computer area to develop flash for mobile phones.
