Thai Rayong to join $350m plantation

Aditya Birla last week said it was setting up a US$350-million (Bt13.7 billion) project in Laos to raise pulp wood and open a pulp plant for its viscose staple fibre business.

They are Grasim Industries Ltd from India, Thai Rayong Plc and PT Indo Bharat Rayon from Indonesia. The project covers two phases - the plantation and the dissolving pulp plant on 50,000 hectares on a 75-year lease. Eucalyptus plantations normally have a growth cycle of seven years.
