Arsonist sets small fire at charter court

An arsonist set fire to the library of the Constitution Court shortly before 1am yesterday, but security guards were able to extinguish it before much damage was done, the court's secretary-general Sanit Chornanan said.
Only the library's outer door and a nearby tree were damaged, Sanit said. He said the motive was unknown, but some officials suspected someone upset by a court decision was behind the incident. Security guards will patrol the premises more often and more floodlights will be installed, Sanit added. The fire was set in an unlit corner of the compound and a nearby security camera failed to capture the act. The library's door was doused with petrol and set alight. Police recovered a petrol container and lighter near the court's outside wall and a plastic bag with traces of petrol. They collected fingerprints from the items as well as the fence the arsonist was likely to have climbed.
