Phra Premsak forced to leave Suan Kaew Temple

Some 100 people gathered at Suan Kaew Temple in Nonthaburi province yesterday to demand that Phra Premsak, a former Thai Rak Thai MP, move out from the temple.

Prapaporn Pinprapai, a leader of the group, said decision of Phra Premsak, or Premsak Peeryura, to enter the monkhood was politically motivated.

"Phra Premsak's behaviour is not proper as a monk. After he became a monk, he hold a press conference at the temple to criticise Thaksin government. The reason he become a monk was also politically motivated, not a religious one," she said.

Using the temple as a venue for politic-related press conference has tarnished reputation of the temple and the abbot, Phra Payom, she claimed.

She asked the abbot to urge Phra Premsak to relocate to another temple.

The group dispersed after Phra Payom assured them that he will not allow anybody to use the temple as a venue for political purpose and that he will encourage Phra Premsak to move to other branches of Suan Kaew temple.

The resignation of Phra Premsak from TRT to enter the monkhood could possibly put TRT into political turmoil as it would leave one seat vacant in the Parliament. Thai Constitution required that all 500 MPs be present in the Parliament at its first gathering after an election before the assembly could be formally open.
