PM's trip cancelled

Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra's busy schedule forced the cancellation of his tour of Chatuchak Weekend Market yesterday, Thai Rak Thai Party spokesman Sita Divari said.

Sita denied rumours that security concerns had been behind the cancellation, but he declined to discuss the premier's schedule. Sita said the market tour had been added to Thaksin's itinerary without consulting the prime minister first.

Earlier, a party source said the cancellation had been prompted by security concerns.

Thaksin had been scheduled to meet vendors and shoppers at the popular market as part of his election campaign.

Thaksin was at party headquarters yesterday morning to record a campaign advertisement.
