Chinese PM postpones visit

Prime Minister Wen Jiabao has postponed his visit for the third time due to the uncertain political situation here, a source said yesterday.

Wen's plan to fly to Hua Hin directly from Phnom Penh on April 8 to be granted an audience by His Majesty the King on the first of a three-day visit has been cancelled, the source said.

The trip has been delayed three times since it was planned for last December. Continuing demonstrations against Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra have forced the Chinese government to reschedule the visit.

Wen had planned to come to Bangkok after the Asean Summit in Kuala Lumpur, but was forced to put it off. Both Wen and Thaksin are expected to sign a joint action plan highlighting political and security cooperation during his visit. - The Nation
