Tax revenue beats target

The government collected Bt93.7 billion in taxes last month, 1.8 per cent above its target and 4.4 per cent more than the amount collected in the same month last year, according to the Finance Ministry.

The ministry attributed the increase to the collection of more value-added taxes (VAT) as well as personal income taxes.

In February the ministry collected Bt34 billion in VAT, 11.6 per cent above target, reflecting sufficiently high consumer confidence, Ministry spokesman Somchai Sajjapong said.

Meanwhile, the government collected Bt14.6 billion in personal income taxes in February, 14.9 per cent above target, largely because some companies paid out bonuses and dividends that month.

Throughout the first five months of the 2006 budget year, which ends on September 30, government revenue reached Bt464.4 billion, which was Bt5.9 billion, or 1.3 per cent, above target. - The Nation
