THAKSIN'S PROTEST
Three measures announced to pressure Thaksin

Bangkok Senator Chirmsak Pinthong Wednesday proposed three measures to pressure Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra into quitting. They are symbolic protest, boycott of businesses affiliated with Thaksin's family, and conducting illegal protest activities despite the penalties.

Symbolic protest:

- contest of letters asking Thaksin to resign, with Thaksin as the judge

- campaigns for priests of various religions to give a sermon on morality every Sunday and Buddhist holy day

- stickers carrying the message, "I wai you, please quit"

- receipts sent in by taxpayers to Thaksin to tell him it wasn't fair he didn't pay taxes, with an organisation opening a mailbox and reporting regularly on the number of receipts received

- candlelighting in front of homes every noon as a symbol of the dark age facing the country

- black clothing worn by judges, prosecutors and lawyers to protest against crooked interpretation of laws to exploit loopholes for personal gain

- new greeting - "Thaksin" and "Get out", instead of "Sawasdee"

Boycott of products, companies and events related to the Shinawatras

-social sanction by avoiding parties where Thaksin and his family are invited, and snubbing them when crossing paths

-boycott of the Election Commission

-campaign for people to perform their civic duty to vote but stamp the "abstain" box

-whistle-blowing by government officials and employees of irregularities within their state enterprises, and strikes if forced to cooperate in shady activities

-boycott of Singapore and its companies

Interference in official work despite punishment, in the extreme case

-obstruct traffic and transportation around Government House

-hold back tax payments until Thaksin resigns
