Bio fuel: Committee delays licence decision

The Bio Fuel Steering Committee has delayed its decision on whether to award licences to 28 newcomers applying for permission to establish ethanol plants, panel secretary Siriporn Silasout said yesterday.

She said the committee was waiting for the government to formulate its policy.

If the process to award the licences is delayed, it could affect the stated policy of taking 95 octane petrol off the market within the next year. - The Nation.

Power production: Egat signs contract

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries yesterday said it had won an order from Egat to supply a package of major equipment for a 750-megawatt gas turbine combined-cycle power generation facility.

An industry source said the latest order was worth between 30 billion yen (Bt10 billion) and ¥35 billion.

The power plant, which will operate on natural gas, is scheduled to start operations in October 2008.

The Tokyo-based heavy-machinery maker has already delivered a number of power plants in Thailand. The Thai government is carrying out a programme to increase the nation's electricity supply by an average of 5 per cent per year, and construction of the new plant is part of that initiative, the company said.- The Nation.

Shinsat tie-up: Wimems inks deal

Malaysia's Mesdaq-listed Wimems Corp expects its production and marketing of high-end satellite-based antennae to earn revenues of US$248 million (Bt10 billion) in three years, said executive chairman Fong Piau.

Wimems's wholly owned subsidiary, Flex-P Industries, recently signed an agreement with Thailand's Shin Satellite to design and develop flat-phase array antenna for iPstar broadband satellite systems.

Flex-P, the main operating arm of Wimems, and Shin Satellite will jointly produce 310,000 antennae worth $800 million for pilot markets, Australia and New Zealand.

Resorts: Briza to hit Samui

The Briza Resort Group said its "The Briza Beach Resort & Spa Samui" was ready to open next Wednesday, under the theme of "Thai Cultural Theme Resort".

Group general manager Nijjaporn Marprasert said that since bookings began at the start of the year, a 40-per-cent occupancy rate had been achieved.- The Nation.

SHIN SALE: AIS unaffected: TOT

TOT Plc yesterday told the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) that the major change in the shareholding structure of Shin Corp Plc did not affect the concession contract of Shin's cellular subsidiary Advanced Info Service Plc (AIS), which was granted by TOT. It said that AIS remained the same juristic entity under its concession.

Last month, the NTC asked TOT to examine the possible effects on the AIS concession in the context of the takeover of Shin by Singapore's Temasek Holdings. - The Nation.
