Proportion of Bangkok voters seeking premier's resignation rises to 48% A growing number of Bangkok voters want caretaker Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra to quit in a bid to end the political turmoil, Abac Poll reported yesterday.

From a sample of 2,175, the demand for Thaksin's resignation jumped from 39.1 per cent last Wednesday to 48.2 per cent

yesterday.

The move against Thaksin corresponded with support for royal intervention to appoint a prime minister, with about 46.1 per cent favouring a royally appointed government. - The Nation.

LAMPANG: Thaksin backer killed en route to city

A supporter of Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra who was heading to Bangkok to join a demonstration was killed in a road accident in Lampang's Koh Kha district, police said yesterday.

Thongkham Sitthikhankaew, 34, was killed instantly after he was run over by a tour bus on Sunday night, Lt-Colonel Pornsak Wongsakdirin of Kho Kha police station said.

Thongkham and his wife had joined a 10,000-strong group of Thaksin supporters packed into a convoy of 600 agricultural trucks from Chiang Rai and Phayao heading to Bangkok. - The Nation.

SPORTS AUTHORITY: Former Nan senator seeks top job

A Nan senator who resigned yesterday is expected to apply for the position of Sports Authority of Thailand governor.

Santiparp Intarapat sent his resignation letter to the Senate Speaker Suchon Chaleekrua but gave no reason for his decision. However, a Senate source said Santiparp might look for a top job on the national sports body. - The Nation.
