Quinn to play for BEC-Tero today

[SOCCER] Former Irish international Niall Quinn will play for local side BEC-Tero Sasana in a Thailand Premier League match against reigning champions Thailand Tobacco Monopoly today.
The 39-year-old pro is representing the Bangkok-based giants as a part of a deal between English Premier League's Arsenal and BEC-Tero Entertainment. "I'm absolutely delighted to join BEC-Tero. This is a forward momentum for Thailand's professional football," said Quinn, who was an Arsenal striker between 1983 and 1990. "I'm very proud to be in the BEC-Tero line-up tomorrow [Saturday]. I hope I don't let myself down." The 1.96m striker will play for the Fire Dragons (BEC-Tero Sasana's nickname) on a one-off basis. Quinn was the highest goalscorer in the history of the Republic of Ireland with 21 goals from 91 appearances. He also played for Manchester City and Sunderland before retiring in 2003 at the age of 37. Meanwhile, the BEC-Tero Sasana Football Club yesterday made a significant change to the club's logo and the team's uniform, which were designed by Arsenal. The new jerseys, both home and away, are similar to the Gunners apparel this season, which is maroon-white for home matches and yellow-blue for away, and will also have the same sponsor in Emirates. Moreover, BEC-Tero Entertainment will launch a new sports reality show "The Arsenal Dream" to select 32 youth players to train with Arsenal in London for a month. Meanwhile, Thai head coach Chanvit Pholchivin said he would send the Asian Games squad to play in the Merdeka Cup, a friendly tournament in Malaysia. "Playing against Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam will be good for our team before the Asian Games. We hope the newcomers will take the opportunity to get some experience," he said.
