RALLIES
Security to be heavy during pro and anti-government meetings

Defence Minister Thamarak Isarangura discussed security measures with the commanders of all three branches of the armed forces for the second time yesterday, ahead of two mass political rallies today and Sunday.
Thammarak said he could not comment on the criteria which would lead to a state of emergency being declared in the case of disturbances at either rally - the first of which is being held by Thai Rak Thai Party supporters. He said both top commanders and National Police Chief Kovit Wattana had confirmed violence would not be used to control any unruly crowds. - The Nation.-------------------------------------- PARLIAMENT: Court asked to revoke dissolution Civil groups yesterday petitioned the Supreme Administrative Court to revoke the dissolution of the House. The non-government organisations also asked the court to order Election Commission chairman Vasana Puemlarp to cease preparations for the April 2 general poll. The anti-government groups said in a statement that the reasons cited by Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra in last Friday's royal decree announcing the House dissolution violated the Constitution. - The Nation.
