Confidence in politics falls: poll

Confidence in Thai politics has dropped to the lowest point in 11 months amid the crisis over Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, a survey by Suan Dusit Rajabhat University has found.
The Index of Confidence in Thai Politics was 94.05 in February, down 3.58 points from the previous month, said Suan Dusit Poll. The index was at its highest point, 102.65, in April last year, when the university began conducting a survey to gauge confidence in local politics. The survey polled 8,296 people from all over the country. People gave a positive response for only three out of 25 areas assessed, including the performance of the premier, national unity, corruption problem, and national development. They were the government's dealing with the narcotics problem, its dealing with the problem of influential figures, and with the corruption problem. Of the 25 indices, national unity suffered the worst slump in February, down 10.46 from January, followed by unity among politicians (-7.62), news from the media (-6.03), national progress (-5.49), and the general condition of society (-5.42).
