Fear of rally violence

The Royal Decree dissolving the House yesterday said the main reason was fear that the political gathering tomorrow would turn violent. It said the gathering had the potential to lead to confrontation.
Although the government had planned to debate the political crisis in the House, that decision did not appease "the dissenting parties". They pledged to go ahead with their rally despite fears it might lead to violence. The decree said the government wanted to gauge public opinion over the political conflict and found that the traditional way was to return power to the public. Channel 9's announcer read the PM's Office's statement explaining the reason for the dissolution. The two main reasons were that the political crisis had prevented the government from functioning and might threaten the stability of the democratic ruling system. It added that the desire by some groups to amend the Constitution could be damaging. It said the charter had been effective for nine years, and led to the development of the country's democracy and a stable, one-party government. That stability had helped solve the country's economic and social problems.
