A shop that sells clothes by weight

Ever heard of buying clothes by weight?
At the Reject Point shop in this town here, that is exactly what shoppers do at the payment counter: get the clothes they have picked, weighed and pay according to the total weight. While this is the way wholesalers and bulk clothing suppliers operate, it is not practised at retail outlets. At Reject Point, each item is colour-tagged, and each colour means a different starting price for each 100gm. The price ranges from two ringgit (Bt220) per 100g for black-tagged clothing to 14 ringgit per 100g for purple-tagged clothing; on the average, a man’s shirt would cost 14 ringgit each while children’s clothing range between three and 20 ringgit. Shop owner Bak Hoon Seng, 29, who runs the business with his wife Mylee Lee, said the concept has been a hit with shoppers, many of whom have thronged the five-month-old shop out of curiosity. “We usually bring in our goods by weight, via containers; therefore it is only logical we sell it by weight too,” said Bak. “Our goods are from all over the country, Hong Kong, Brunei and India,” he said, adding that the shop’s concept was something similar to a factory outlet.
