Baby hangs on to mum after killing

The 10-month-old son of a husband and wife who were killed Thursday night apparently as the result of a gambling dispute was found asleep on his mother’s chest Friday morning.
Police in Chumphon’s Sawi district yesterday morning went to a house in a rubber and coffee plantation in Tambon Nasak and found the body of Kanchana Thongkham, 27, in the front yard while her husband, Pramote Thongkham, 30, was found dead in the back yard. Both had been dead for at least eight hours, said Lt- Colonel Athit Kerdkor of Nasak police station. There was no sign of a robbery, but cartridge cases and footprints left by the gunman were found at the scene.Mek, the couple’s infant son, had been holding on to his mother’s lifeless body and trying to suckle milk. A trail of blood indicated the boy had been running to and from his parents’ bodies before he fell asleep on his mother’s body. Pramote died of shotgun wounds to his shoulder and head sustained while he was believed to have been washing in the back yard. When the gunman reached the front yard he saw Kanchana peeling fruit. Fearing she would turn and possibly identify him, shot her in the back. The Nation CHUMPHON
