‘PM should apologise’

Published on January 27, 2006

Senator Chirmsak Pinthong yesterday criticised Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra for selling Thaicom Satellite to foreigners, saying the business name was bestowed by His Majesty the King.

Thaksin should apologise to the King, Chirmsak said.

The senator alleged Thaksin had to sell Shin Corp – Thaicom’s parent firm – in its entirety because selling individual units such as Advanced Info Service would mean having to pay tax.

Senator Somkiat On-wimol agreed with Chirmsak’s proposal that Thaksin apologise to the King and take the Thaicom name back from Singapore’s Temasek group.
