CROSS-BORDER TRADE: New crossing at Nong Khai
A temporary border crossing point has been opened at Nong Khai to facilitate trade with Laos.
Rachane Potjanasuntorn, director-general of the Foreign Trade Department, said the crossing point would open twice a week – on Tuesday and Saturday – from 8am to 5pm. The border trade post is opposite Kao Leiw pier in Baan Sirkhum, part of Laos’ Vientiane province. Cross-border trade involves mainly consumer and farm goods, with commerce through Nong Khai province reaching Bt21.25 billion last year. Thai exports across the border were Bt19.85 billion and imports Bt1.4 billion.
