SoftControl recently announced in Bangkok the successful in-
itiation of a major IT-infrastructure service contract with BLCP Power Ltd (BLCP), a leader in the coal-fired power-production industry.
For its role in the project, SoftControl will create and install architect IT infrastructure, including networks, servers, applications, firewalls, a storage-area network (SAN), back-up abilities, policies and operational procedures. The scope of the on-going service contract also includes hardware and software acquisitions and related installation and implementation services. “Our solutions are based on ensuring that all applications have the highest accessibility to users in the event of any potential disruption in service, including power, switch, firewall or network-card failure,” said Georg Trapp, managing director for SoftControl. SoftControl implements Cisco redundant core Layer-3 switches to ensure network redundancy and high routing capability. The core network is connected to more than 10 remote buildings via 3Com switches and fibre connections (both single and fibre mode). More than 10 HP rack servers are supplied to provide the wide selection of services required, with critical applications with each server connected directly to HP SAN for a single point of storage. For easy management, data back-up is also centralised through an HP Autoloader device. In addition to SoftControl, other vendors involved in the project include APC, Computer Associated and Symantec. As part of BLCP’s outsourcing concept, SoftControl will remain with the project to provide continuous senior-level support and consultancy. BLCP is a joint venture between Banpu Coal Power Ltd and CLP Power and operates a 1,434-MW coal-fired power plant in the Map Ta Put Industrial Estate in Rayong. In a recent power-purchase agreement (PPA) with Egat, BLCP agreed to develop, construct, finance, operate and maintain the project for a 25-year term. The Nation
