Farmers from 34 provinces filed complaints with Agriculture Minister Sudarat Keyuraphan yesterday about subsidised cattle they received from the government two days earlier.
Complaints submitted to the ministry in Bangkok by about 50 farmers said the cattle they received on Tuesday in Loei were relatively small for the price of Bt20,000 each.
Also, the cattle had not been quarantined or checked for diseases, so the farmers were afraid they might bring disease to their farms. They called for a review of a Cabinet resolution from April 2001 to stop all GMO experiments on farms, as proposed by Assembly of the Poor.
