LOCAL WARES: Uganda gets Thai product mart
The first Thai product mart has opened in Uganda.
Leewadee Holding Co features products such as textiles, stationery, snacks and foods, including jasmine rice. Mart director Laowongphat Chantana said more leading Thai products would be introduced later. “Our products come from some of the best companies in Thailand. Thailand is agro-based like Uganda and produces the world’s best rice, jasmine,” Chantana said during the opening of the mart in Kampala. She is being helped by a five-man team from Thailand and employs 20 Ugandans. CHARITY: Hotels raise Bt1.7m This year’s “Seasonal Greeting Donation for Charity” project has been yet another outstanding success, with Bt1.68 million raised. The project began in 1996 when a handful of Bangkok’s hotels joined together to raise funds for local charities. The money normally spent sending out greetings cards to customers and friends – Bt70,000 from each hotel – has been donated to nominated charities. This year saw 24 hotels make the donation to help provide a better future for children. The recipients, Baan Feungfah and Sarnelli House, are committed to helping children in need and have each received Bt840,000.
