HITACHI: Units to merge in revamp
Hitachi Ltd, Hitachi Air Conditioning Systems Co Ltd (HACS) and Hitachi Home and Life Solutions Inc announced an agreement to reorganise their operating frameworks yesterday.
The reorganisation is aimed at reinforcing their “lifestyle zone” solutions concept. The revamp will also focus on introducing comprehensive air-conditioning and digital home electronics into homes, offices, stores and other locations. The two units will merge as part of the reorganisation on April 1 next year. Hitachi’s Consumer Business Group will assume responsibility for overseeing all marketing and sales activities including comprehensive air-conditioning systems, home electrical items, digital home electronics and related products. It will be responsible for sales activities in these businesses on a global scale, according to a company statement. NEXANS CABLE: High voltage link for Samui Nexans, the worldwide leader in the cable industry, has signed an Bt872 million contract with the Provincial Electricity Authority to supply an underwater high voltage link to Samui island. The link will run between Khanom district in Nakhon Si Thammarat to Samui, Thailand’s third largest island. Nexans will carry out the project as part of a consortium along with Italian Thai Development Pcl, said Patrick Barth, the managing director of Nexans’ high voltage activity. Nexans is supplying and installing 24 kilometres of 115 kV 3-core XLPE power cable and related accessories, he added. IPSTAR: Battery cells a success Mitsubishi Electric Corporation and GS Yasua Corporation yesterday jointly announced the successful application and operation of lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery cells to power the GEO satellite Thaicom 4 (iPSTAR). The satellite was manufactured by Space Systems/Loral (SS/L) for Shin Satellite and was launched on August 11 from the Arianespace Spaceport in Kourou, French Guyana. An orbiting satellite must have a non-solar based power source, such as Li-ion cells, to maintain operations when it is in the eclipse stage of its orbit. .
