[ASEAN PARA GAMES] Disabled Thai athletes put in a marvellous performance to finish as overall champions at the 3rd Asean Para Games yesterday, winning the title for the third time in a row with 157 gold, 82 silver and 37 bronze medals. A total of eight gold medals were contested on the last day yesterday in table tennis, where the Thai squad won another three gold from the men’s singles (2) and the women’s singles.
Thai representative Tawatchai Sajjakul was handed the Games flag from hosts the Philippines at the closing ceremony yesterday as the Kingdom will host the Asean Para Games in the next two years.
Colonel Osot Bhavilai, president of Association of the Physically Handicapped of Thailand, said the disabled Thai athletes’ performances were very satisfying since they reached their target and became the overall champions with 157 gold medals. “We prepared our squad so well and had strict regulations for the athletes qualifying.
