SEA GAMES: SHOW OF STRENGTH

Junpim and Thongyim claim gold. Thai lifters, displaying plenty of power and strength, won three medals, including two gold, on the opening day of the SEA Games weightlifting competition at Bacolod Convention Centre. World champion Junpim Kuntatean was clearly the centre of attraction, capturing the women’s 58kg crown.

Top Thais take a big tumble

[BADMINTON] Reigning mixed doubles champions Sudket Prapakamol and Saralee Thungthongkham lost in the 23rd SEA Games quarter-finals in what turned out to be a disappointing day for Thai players. World No 5 and Asian champions Sudket and Saralee, who made a great impact in the World Championships in Anaheim, US, where they advanced to the semi-finals, were stunned by Indonesia’s Anggun Nugroho and Yunita Tetty, ranked world No 16 and runners-up at the Indonesian Open, in a hard-fought 10-15 15-7 9-15 battle.

It’s a poor day in the pool
