SEA GAMES COUNTDOWN: Uphill battle
Thai tennis team face a tough time in Philippines. The past two SEA Games tennis competitions have been dominated by the Thai squad, but this year men’s squad veterans Danai Udomchoke and twin brothers Sonchat and Sanchai Ratiwatana face an uphill battle to retain their title. The Thai men’s team, which will be without the retired Varapol Thongkamchoo and Paradorn Srichaphan, have helped the Kingdom dominate the competition since the 18th Games series in Chiang Mai.
Full house for Thailand’s first game
[SOCCER] The 8,000-capacity Panaad Stadium will be packed when defending champions Thailand play the Philippines in their Group A match today. Thai head coach Chanvit Pochivin said his team are fit and ready for A tough game against the hosts, who are now focusing on the soccer event after the nation’s favourite sport of basketball was dropped at the SEA Games. The match kicks off at 3.30pm [Bangkok time] and can be seen live on channels 7, 11 and iTV.
IT'S ALL IN THE GAME: Somluck still packs a punch
Although he has hung up his gloves and retired, Olympic boxing champion Somluck Kamsing proved he can still swing a punch, as a Hollywood movie star recently discovered. The 1996 Olympic gold medallist was invited onto the movie set by action star Jet Li, who is filming his new movie “Fearless”, which will be released next year.
