All government offices to bear flags

marking King’s 60th year on throne

The Cabinet yesterday agreed to have all government offices decorated with yellow flags bearing a logo celebrating the 60th anniversary of His Majesty the King’s accession to the throne.

Government Spokesman Surapong Suebwonglee said that from December 1 this year to December 1 next year, all government offices would be decorated with the flags and private buildings would be asked by the Cabinet to do the same.

On December 1 this year, Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and his wife will also preside over the opening ceremony of a celebration at Nakhon Ratchasima’s Self-Sufficient Economy Centre. Celebrations will also be held in the equivalent centres in Chiang Mai, Chachoengsao and Nakhon Si Thammarat on the same day. – The Nation.

N Korea abductions: Sihasak to consult with Japanese

The Foreign Ministry has dispatched a senior official to Japan to seek Tokyo’s advice on how to negotiate with North Korea over the abduction of its citizens, according to an informed source.

Sihasak Phuangketkeow, who is designated to be the ministry’s deputy permanent secretary, is scheduled to meet senior staff in the Japanese foreign ministry’s Northeast Asia Department on Friday.

The meeting was set up after a Thai request to Tokyo for assistance in tracking down and finding out about people believed to have been abducted by North Korea. – The Nation.
