Hopes high as Thais aim four gold medals

[SEA GAMES] The indigenous sport of sepak takraw is one of the main medal hopes for Thailand in the SEA Games in which six golds are up for grabs. Introduced to the regional sporting event in 1965, sepak takraw, which originally used a woven rattan ball before the current yellow plastic version was adopted, will be one of the highlights this year, and the anticipated Thailand-Malaysia finals will have fans in almost every household in both countries glued to their TV sets.

Hosts win women’s hoop team

[ASIAN INDOOR GAMES] Thailand made a clean sweep of the seven gold medals available on the penultimate day of the inaugural Asian Indoor Games in muay Thai and hoop takraw. Surasak Sansang won a gold medal in the muay Thai flyweight class after beating Bounngieam Sovo Rasing of Laos on points, while bantamweight Veerapol Kwangkwang disposed of Laotian Phanvilay Rattanabounmy also on points.
