Bangkok Dusit Medical Services Plc (BGH) considers being included in one of Forbes magazine’s lists of “Best Asian Companies” as a landmark for the company and the country.

“Making it onto Forbes’ list is a big achievement. What makes it more special is the fact that we are the only healthcare business in the region to be included on the list,” said BGH president Pongsak Viddayakorn.

Along with Central Pattana Plc and GMM Grammy Plc, Bangkok Dusit Medical Services was selected by Forbes for inclusion in its “200 Best under a Billion” list. Listed companies in the region with annual revenue under US$1 billion (Bt41 billion) were eligible for the honour.

Also named as one of the top 11 Thai listed companies, BGH reported total sales in 2004 of US$136 million, net income of $16 million and market value of $537 million.

The company hopes to establish Thailand as the Asian medical hub. To achieve this, it has expanded its Bangkok Hospital to become Bangkok Hospital Medical Complex, which comprises Bangkok Hospital, Bangkok Heart Hospital, Bangkok Cancer Hospital and Bangkok International Hospital.

Recently, BGH announced plans to integrate the operations of Bangkok Dusit Medical Services Plc and its four subsidiaries: the Bangkok Hospitals in Pattaya, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat.

The company said this would strengthen BGH’s medical services in the eastern region, an area with high potential in part because it is an important tourist destination.
