Search for head auditor may go back to square 1
The State Audit Commission (SAC) is preparing for a possible new selection process to appoint an auditor-general after the Consti-tution Court yesterday ruled that Visut Montriwat’s nomination to the post was legal. Although the court voted unanimously to reject a petition by the SAC to rule on Khunying Jaruvan Maintaka’s status as auditor-general, it clarified the legality of Visut’s nomination.
US freezes assets of Thais for ‘drug links’
The United States yesterday froze the assets of 11 people and 16 firms based in Thailand for alleged links with a Burmese heroin-producing and trafficking group operating in the Golden Triangle. The US Treasury Department said in a statement that the individuals and firms were “part of the financial and commercial network of designated significant foreign narcotics-trafficker Wei Hsue-kang and the United Wa State Army (UWSA)”.
Anocha still registered in San Kamphaeng
Anocha Panjoy’s name still appears on her family’s household registration, and she has been on the list of eligible voters for every election held during the past 27 years since her mysterious disappearance in Macau.
