To help stave off a global bird-flu pandemic, the Department of Medical Sciences yesterday said it was considering inoculating high-risk people against influenza.
While no cases of bird flu or influenza type A have been reported in Thailand this year, the possibility of an avian flu epidemic triggered by a mutation in the virus enabling it to spread from human to human was alarmingly high, said department head Dr Phaijit Varachit.
