Dance fest kicks off

Last year the house was less than half-full, but the seventh Bangkok International Festival of Dance and Music, which begins tonight, expects to draw bigger audiences to all of this year’s events. The festival, which runs until October 9, features 13 shows including opera, dance, orchestral and jazz performances from the US, Europe, Australia and Asia.

UNHCR begins interviews

The United Nations refugee agency yesterday started interviewing the 131 Thai Muslims being sheltered in northern Malaysia after fleeing violence in the southernmost province of Narathiwat, despite opposition from Bangkok. The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) also urged Malaysia not to deport the Thais until the interviews were completed to find out if their lives would be at risk if they were sent home.

Mam’s show cancelled

Poly Plus Co, producer of Samakom Chom Dow (Club of Star Admirers) on Channel 3, yesterday announced an abrupt end to its 10-year-old variety show after co-host Kataleeya McIntosh surprised her fans with the news that she is pregnant.
