Hadadi in limelight

[ATHLETICS] Ehsan Hadadi of Iran set an Asian record in the men’s discus throw and Japan’s Miho Sugimori set a new championship best time in the women’s 1,500 metres yesterday, the first day of the Asian Athletics Championships at the Incheon Munhak Stadium.

Hadadi’s winning throw measured 65.26 metres, breaking the previous Asian record of 65.16 metres set by Li Shaojie of China in 1996.

In the men’s 100m, Thailand’s Wachara Sorndee made it to today’s final after he ran 10.57 seconds to finish third in the second heat in yesterday’s semi-finals, while two Thai girls cruised their way into today’s final in the women’s 100m.

The impressive quartet of Seksan Wongsela, Wachara Sorndee, Ekkachai Chanthana and Sitthichai Suwornpratheep stormed their way into the final after crossing the finish line first in their heat in 39.39 seconds in the men’s 4x100 metres.
