Technocrats will have an alternative when it comes to buying new devices and gadgets as JJ Land Development has spent Bt2 billion to turn Laksi Plaza into IT Square by the end of this year.
Penjama Sirikiwattana, marketing communications manager of JJ Land Development, said the plan is to develop an 18,000-square metre IT centre at the corner of Chaengwattana Road. It expects the centre will serve around 2.6 million people or more than 236,00 families around the area.
The IT Square is also in partnership with TOT Public Company which will provide the IT facilities. It has laid down fibre-optic infrastructure, Metro LAN, Web phones and WiFi technology so that people can access the Internet at the centre. Access points will provide Internet at speeds of 2MB. It will also set up a training centre and meeting room to increase IT literacy in the country, and be a Software Park incubator to facilitate IT startups. The Metro LAN will be a high-speed network connected between private companies' branch offices, such as Software Park headquarters connected to a branch office at IT Square. It will also allow companies to do business over the high-speed network. Montchai Noosong, vice president of TOT, said IT Square will also have kiosks called “Intelligent Receptionist”. They will be multi-propose kiosks, providing interactive information, Internet and e-mail access, pay at point, and multimedia advertising. There will also be video mail and photo centres for users. More than 95 per cent of space at IT Square has been reserved for tenants such as TOT Shop, UBC Shop and IT City. The IT Square is located at Chaengwattana Road, about three kilometres north of the airport. The company expects that more than 50,000 visitors to visit IT Square each day. The company will hold a grand opening in the next several months. jirapan@nationgroup.com Jirapan Boonnoon The Nation
