Deputy Transport Minister Phumtham Wechayachai yesterday agreed to review the five demands submitted by truck operators, who are seeking relief from rising diesel prices.

The ministry and the Land Transport Federation along with a representative of the 10-wheel-truck operators will jointly examine the demands, Phumtham said.

“I believe we can come to an amicable solution regarding the rising diesel prices,” he said.

The five demands made by

the truck operators include a diesel quota at a concessionary price for truck operators, 10 per cent tax cuts for trucking businesses and an increase in the maximum truck payload to 26 tonnes.

To call attention to their plight, truck operators parked 500 trucks stretching 10 kilometres, along the highway in Ayutthaya’s Wang Noi district, a road junction linking the capital to the North, Northeast and Central regions.

The trucks started to line up at 6am yesterday and dispersed in the early afternoon following the meeting between Phumtham and the rally organisers.
