[SOCCER] Everton’s Leon Osman is relishing the chance to play in the FA Premier League Trophy in Thailand next month. The Merseyside team are scheduled to join Bolton Wanderers, Manchester City and Thailand’s SEA Games squad in the quadrangular tournament.
The competition will be run under a knock-out format from July 20-23 at the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok.
According to the club’s web site, evertonfc.com, the versatile Osman, who can play as either a midfielder and up front, said he was excited to have such a tough test during the pre-season. “I’m definitely looking forward to going to Thailand,” said the 24-year-old Osman. “It’s going to be a fantastic trip. I’m pretty sure that most of the lads have never been there before and it will be a great experience. “It’s good to play in such a tournament. Although it will be a friendly and it won’t be as competitive as a Premiership game, we’ll be coming up against the likes of Bolton and Manchester City and you just get to have a little look at them before the season starts.” Osman added that an overseas trip could help the team both physically and mentally, but admitted that the destination would play a big role on team morale. “Being away helps the camaraderie,” he said. “I think the destination has a lot to do with it though. “If you go to somewhere in the middle of nowhere then there might not be things to do outside of training and everyone will be moaning. On the other hand, if you go somewhere with lots to do then you’ll have a fantastic time.”
