VEHICLE IMPORTS: April sees 1,732 autos brought in
Automobile imports in April totalled 1,732 units, with South Korean auto-maker Kia leading the pack with 684 vehicles.
According to Customs Department figures, a total of 724 South Korean automobiles went through customs formalities in April, comprising 684 Kias and 40 Ssangyongs. Almost Bt63 million was collected in import duties. A total of 332 European vehicles were imported during the month. They included Mercedes Benz (122 units), Volkswagen (146), Peugeot (17) and BMW (12). More than Bt495 million in import duties was collected. A total of 673 vehicles were imported from Japan for the month, including Mazda (462 units), Toyota (155) and Suzuki (36). The import duty collected reached more than Bt337 million. There were just three vehicles imported from the United States in April: a Saturn, a Subaru and a Chevrolet. In April, the total import duty collected for automobiles reached more than Bt895 million. For the corresponding month last year, 1,393 vehicles were imported and more than Bt975 million was collected in duties.
