Refugees complain about German NGO

A large group of Burmese people displaced by fighting near the border with Thailand and living in a border camp in Mae Hong Son has complained to provincial authorities and the UN High

Commissioner for Refugees over the services of a German non-governmental health organisation.

The Burmese are living at Ban Mae La Luang in Mae Hong Son’s Sop Moei district. Officials say they number in the thousands.

Their leader, Bae Soe, said they wanted Malteser Hilfsdienst (MHD), a Berlin-based health agency, to be replaced.

In a letter submitted to Sob Moei district authorities and the UNHCR on Friday, the refugees listed seven grievances with the aid agency, suggesting that its medicine should be of higher quality, it should listen to the needs of displaced persons, and that sanitary conditions in the camp should be improved.
