The World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) yesterday offered to help tsunami-affected animals in six southern provinces.
The WSPA pledged to provide financial support, technological assistance and veterinarians during a meeting its representative had with Deputy Prime Minister Chaturon Chaisang, said Roger Lohanan, president of the Thai Animal Guardian Association.
Roger accompanied the WSPA representative to the meeting. “WSPA will also open its Asian regional office in Thailand this September,” he said. Responding to charges that his association had snatched many cats from Phi Phi Island and taken them to Bangkok without the owners’ permission, Roger said confusion might have arisen during transportation. “We are going to issue our explanation through our website [www.thaiaga.org] and will soon explain everything at a press conference,” he said. He added that owners could reclaim their feline pets after their quarantine period of up to 15 days has ended. “But if your pets are ill, it may take more time,” he said. The Nation
