EDITORIAL: The way forward in the year ahead

Forging the steel of self-sufficiency in the fires of tribulation

A show of compassion from the heart

As the 10 friends sat together at a restaurant, their thoughts automatically turned to the devastation caused by the tsunami waves in southern Thailand. It was only Monday, the day after the disaster, and they couldn’t have known at that time how widespread the death and destruction was throughout southern Asia. They just knew that they wanted to do something, and in this desire they were not alone.

A resolution for the New Year and a better future

It is time for New Year’s resolutions, and this year’s are obvious. When the millennium opened, world leaders pledged to seek peace, the end of poverty and a cleaner environment. Since then the world has seen countless acts of violence, terrorism, famine, and environmental degradation. In 2005 we can begin to change direction.
